J. E. Harper letter to John Fitzgerald [manuscript], 1855 July 30.

Harper writes to the noted Nottoway County, Va., plantation owner stating "... my price for Peyton under the circumstances is $900 but I would be willing to swap him for a good farm hand an[d] a good house woman to cook &c. I proposed to hire him to you but I have now engaged him to finish a barn near home which will take him some too or three months ... after which time I hope to let him go at what ever is a fair price."
